Changing Your Narrative About What It Means To Have Desires
Can you trust that your soul desires truly do benefit the collective?
This is a question I asked one of my clients as we discussed her relationship to having desires.
She expressed that since she was a child she has put her wants aside out of consideration of others –
‘joining a sports team will get in the way of my parents’ work and create a challenge for them, so I won’t even bring it up’, type of thing.
She did this time and time again, and still finds herself doing this with her partner even though he has and will always support her moving towards what she wants.
She also described how she chooses the middle of the road. Not the cheapest sweater, or the most expensive one. Always the one in the middle.
‘How do I move through this?’, she asked.
I let think this question truly land, I closed my eyes and I spoke…
“Dialogue with your inner child and help her rewrite that story. In your journal or by talking to her, help her rewrite that whole narrative, which you’ll likely need to do many times.
Then I want you to look for examples of when you chose your desire and how that served the whole.
(I offered some personal examples that I’ll leave out here for privacy sake).
Create an evidence list of all the times choosing yourself has benefited you, of course, which is always very important, and then the ripple of effect of how it benefitted others.
Then starting to turn that narrative around:
When I choose what I really want, and feel as if its my soul making that choice, can I trust that my soul desire is always serving the greater collective?
Even if its choosing the most expensive sweater. If it lights you up and makes sense in proportion to your finances.
So, if there’s a $20 sweater, a $40 sweater and a $60 sweater – energetically, these are all the same price. Let’s be honest.
If I really love the $60 sweater and I choose it, can I trust that the ripple effect of that will be that I’ll feel amazing, excited, magnetic and beautiful opportunities will come to me when I feel magnetic?
Let yourself run wild.
Tell me how this sounds.
Well, let’s just say, it sounded like just what she desired, to hear.
How does this land? What does thoughts and ideas does it spark for you?
With love,
Diana
